About Us

One sees the lack of scientific tradition in our country, and asks why. The reason is that we have not actively pursued the establishment of a network of Filipinos who are united to make a stand for science. There is a lack of scientific awareness among the general public, a lack of role models that the youth can emulate and identify with. It is this lack of information concerning Filipino scientists and researchers and their contribution to science that the Bahay Kubo Research (BKR) website was established. Founded in June 2000, the BKR website aims to consolidate the work of Filipino researchers in various fields of expertise, and promote research cooperation and networking among Filipino researchers. To know more about the BKR initiative, please visit the main site at http://www.bahaykuboresearch.net/.

The BKR Blog is the latest addition to the BKR initiative.  This blog is intended to serve as a medium where latest developments in research, science-related topics, and other issues can be discussed in a more interactive and light manner, particularly among the younger generation.

The BKR team believes that to improve the current state of S&T in the country, all players including Filipino scientists, engineers, researchers, science writers, and reading public should work together. Researchers should come out from their laboratories and disseminate scientific information gathered in the course of their work. Science writers should also write about scientific findings and help spread verified information to the general public. By establishing this blog, the BKR team hopes that it could serve as an active medium for this collaborative effort to become a reality.

We thus invite Filipino researchers, science writers, students, and bloggers whose interests and passion are in S&T, to join us in this endeavor. Let’s blog about how we feel about the scientific and technological advancement in the Philippines. Let’s give a voice to the underrepresented minority of our country. We invite you to get an account now and start contributing.
